Spoon and Volvo Trucks winners at Digital Communication Awards

The Digital Communication Awards took place in Berlin last Friday. Spoon and Volvo Trucks won the first prize at the international contest, for the high-profile campaign Volvo Trucks Vs. Koenigsegg.

The Digital Communication Awards rewards the world’s top digital communications and marketing. Spoon and Volvo Trucks were nominated in the ‘Viral Video’ category. The competition is decided by a final where the nominees present their case before a jury.

“We are extremely happy and proud of this award. Competition at the Digital Communication Awards is fierce and our case was competing against several fantastic campaigns including one from Turkish Airlines,” said Eric Lundekrans, Account Director at Spoon.

In the film, Volvo Trucks Vs. Koenigsegg, racing driver Tiff Needell races a Volvo FH against one of the world’s fastest sports cars – a Koenigsegg One:1. The aim was to investigate whether the Volvo FH with the new gearbox, I-Shift Dual Clutch, can really be compared to a sports car, as Volvo Trucks’ believes.

The campaign surrounding the film has attracted international attention and previously won the award for ‘Best Use of Social Media’ at the Content Marketing Awards in the US.

“The success depends on several factors. It is partly a creative idea that takes its influence and style from traditional TV programmes like Top Gear and also an effective public relations exercise and a sophisticated, meticulously planned social media distribution campaign,” adds Eric Lundekrans.

The film that the campaign was based on was dubbed into German and translated into 16 languages in order to reach an international audience. The film has been viewed 2.5 million times on YouTube. Furthermore, Volvo Trucks reached all large trucks media worldwide in connection with the campaign, with 412 articles being published in 35 countries.
